Sunday walking street market in Phuket Town

Sunday walking street market in Phuket Town

Better known to locals as: ‘Lard Yai Market’, this Sunday walking street market is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Phuket Town and well worth a visit. Nestled in the heart of the historical part of Phuket Town, you can visit this market every Sunday from 4 pm to 9 pm (and often beyond). Over a length of 360 metres, this market offers a unique blend of food, drinks, clothes, and culture of Phuket.

Vibrant stalls line the beautifully lit streets, each offering a tantalising array of Thai delicacies. The scent of freshly barbecued meats mingled with the tang of lemongrass and spices, creating a welcoming atmosphere that attracts locals and tourists alike. Try some of the local sweets, ice creams or the famous Thai bubble tea, freshly made for you on the spot.

It is not only the numerous delicious eating options that this market is famous for. Stroll along the stalls and shops for clothing at a negotiable price: various t-shirts, printed with or without Phuket’s name or landmarks, stuffed animals and printed fabrics, accessories and even ceramic dishes. Indigo casual wear and pastel colours are in high demand at the moment.

The location of the Sunday market in Old Phuket Town is one with many advantages. The street itself is a great photo opportunity as the surrounding houses are built in the classic Sino-Portuguese style of architecture and are beautifully painted and well maintained. Also, this is one of the rare areas of Phuket where the electric cables have been put underground, making for a gorgeous, picturesque setting of this Sunday evening market. No motorised traffic is allowed on the street during the time of the Sunday market so it is safe to roam around at your leisure.

Our Rock Stars at the front desk are happy to organise your transport to and from the Sunday market. It is highly recommended to combine this excursion with a visit to Big Buddha or to one of Phuket’s stunning temples. Ask our Rock Stars for the full menu of excursions on offer.
