Phuket’s Best Sunset Spots

Top Best Places and Bars For Sunsets in Phuket

Phuket’s west coast offers world-class venues to watch the sun set into the Andaman sea. Here are our favourite places to enjoy an epic Phuket sunset.

With no shortage of picturesque beaches lining its west coast and numerous panoramic viewpoints, finding a good place to watch the sunset on Phuket makes for a tough choice. Fortunately, our list of the best sunset spots around the island can help you decide where to chill out and watch the sun go down.

Promthep Cape

Likely the most visited sunset spot on Phuket is Promthep Cape, also known as Laem Promthep. It offers stunning views of Racha Yai and Racha Noi islands to the south, plus Ya Nui and Nai Harn beaches to the north. Promthep Cape is probably the most photographed location on the island as it frequently trends on social media.

Wassa Homemade Bar

Wassa Homemade Bar is the ultimate sundowner spot in Patong Beach. Located off Hasip-Pee Road, this open-air venue is one of the most popular spots on Phuket’s west coast to watch the sun go down over Patong bay.

Big Buddha

Phuket’s Big Buddha is one of the island’s largest and most respected landmarks. The colossal 45-metre-high statue is perched between Chalong and Kata and offers the best 360-degree views of the island with superb sunsets over Kata and Karon beaches.

Kata Rocks

Considered by many leading travel magazines as Phuket’s best sunset spot, Kata Rocks has the added advantage of one of the largest gin collections in Thailand and 24 wines by the glass. So, sundowners combined with its nightly complimentary sunset tapas are sure to satisfy. Sunsets over its stunning 35-metre infinity swimming pool are not to be missed.

360 Degrees Restaurant

360 Degrees is perfectly positioned near Layan Beach with its unique hilltop vista location. As its name suggests, the restaurant features a bedazzling panoramic view of its surroundings. Get ready to be blown away by stunning views of lush greenery and the Andaman Sea.

Karon Viewpoint (Kata Viewpoint)

Karon Viewpoint (formerly Kata viewpoint) is another of the most frequented hillside sunset spots in Phuket. From here, it is possible to watch to sun drop into the sea over Kata Noi, Kata Yai and Karon beaches.

Heaven Restaurant & Bar

Just above Kata Noi, there are three adjacent hillside bars/restaurants that enjoy great views and stunning sunsets. Heaven Restaurant & Bar Phuket is consistently best of the bunch, with outstanding views from its rooftop deck and main dining area.

Sabai Corner

Just down the road from Heaven Restaurant & Bar is Sabai Corner. From its north facing view, visitors can see past Kata Noi all the way to Karon beach together with Pu Island and the Big Buddha. It offers a no-frill dining experience that includes wood-fired pizzas plus an extensive offering of Thai dishes.

Samet Nangshe Viewpoint

This used to be a secret sunset spot. Once word got out it quickly became one of Phang Nga province’s most popular viewpoints. It provides stunning views over Phang Nga Bay’s limestone islets and even the Milky Way is visible if the conditions are right. It remains relatively undiscovered because it’s a 25km drive from Sarasin Bridge along twisting country roads.
