Suay Restaurant uses the simplicity of a small house to break the ice and create a homey atmosphere then follows through with a menu packed with adventurous and fun cuisine. With a white and light-green theme throughout and bracketed by a white picket fence, Suay Thai restaurant in Phuket is perfect for casual lunch or a light dinner with good friends and family.
Prices are affordable and the Thai food is both creative and original, so don’t be shy: try things that sound funny from the menu. It’s location in the middle of Phuket Town makes it easy to find.
The menu is eclectic and fun, Thai by definition with unique twists more focused on quality. It is often described as ‘Innovative Thai Cuisine’ or ‘Young Thai Cuisine’ for lack of better turn of phrase. It does offer diners a chance to try blue sticky rice, Sticky Rice Mango Spring Rolls or Black Sesame Ice Cream.
Braised beef in sweet Thai green curry and the spicy fresh yellow fin tuna Issan-style are both eye-openers of another kind. Choose from the daily specials backboard with its ever changing dishes or go for classics as grilled seas scallops.
Traditional Thai favourites mix well with fun dishes: Som Tam, Tom Yum and Nam Tok Nua (Beef salad), chicken satay and frog legs with garlic and pepper to name a few. A few other menu items have been named with titles that are mysterious and sublime, so we’ll just let names do the talking: ‘Mrs Piggy Took Sun Bath’ (Moo Dad Diew) and ‘Apple Salad with Catfish Cigar’, ‘Pomelo Salad with Salmon Carpaccio and Roasted Chili Dressing’.
Portions are modest at Suay and sharing dishes Thai-style is the best way to enjoy a meal here.
As previously mentioned diners might try and define the food but it really doesn’t matter. Suay’s fare is exceptional and very much classically based yet modern in its execution.
