Most Expensive Superyachts In The World

Most Expensive Superyachts In The World

When it comes to superyacht specifications it’s definitely different strokes for different folks.

Luxury is highly subjective. For some bigger is better, and the sheer size of the yacht and the number of guests it is able to accommodate is the primary focus. For others, it is more about design, speed or onboard facilities. These could include security systems, spa, a gym, helipad, mini-submarine, cinema, conference facilities, private drones, dance floors or infinity pools.

Unlike standard yachts, superyachts have professional crews, can be either motor-powered, sail yachts or hybrids and typically runs between 30 to 170 metres in length. For those looking to buy or build to order, be prepared to spend well over USD 100 million with the cost of the world’s most expensive superyachts approaching USD 1 billion.

Azzam

For those who believe bigger is better look no further than Azzam. Designed and built by family-run German boat builder Lurssen, this is the largest superyacht in the world at 180 metres. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the proud owner of this vessel, which is estimated to cost a paltry USD 660 million. Not only is Azzam the biggest superyacht, it is also expected to be one of the fastest. The 94,000 horsepower vessel could reach speeds of more than 30 knots, or 56 kilometers per hour. Rivaling some smaller cruise ships, little is known about the interior design work done by Christophe Leoni. It is thought to be open-plan, includes a salon and has around 50 suites.

Eclipse

Eclipse was once the world’s largest yacht until it was eclipsed (apologies) by Azzam. Owned by Russian Oligarch Roman Abramovich, valuations for Eclipse range between $450 million and $800 million.  This 164 metre vessel was until recently thought to be the world’s most expensive and extravagant superyacht, with a 70-person crew to look after up to 36 guests in 18 cabins. Its James Bond caliber big boy toys include a submarine, missile defense system, two helipads, two swimming pools, a cinema and an armor-plated master suite. One of the swimming pools, measuring 16 metres, has an adjustable depth button so it can be converted into a dance floor.

Dilbar

Dilbar is a 157 metre superyacht and is the world’s biggest yacht measured by volume. Delivered to her owner in May 2016, she is said to have cost at least USD 600 million and can accommodate 40 guests with a crew of 80. She replaced the previous Dilbar, which is still owned by Alisher Usmanov and now named Ona. This vessel features cutting edge superyacht design and is another product of the Lurssen boatyard. While fourth in terms of exterior scale, Dilbar is in fact the world’s largest yacht in terms of interior space. Dilbar also has a special tender that every superyacht owner needs: a custom build Airbus H175 helicopter (list price USD 17 million) with an interior by Pegasus Design.

Motor Yacht Yas

While it may only be the tenth largest yacht, Yas is probably one of the most significant superyachts of recent times. The 141-metre vessel has a distinctive narrow profile inspired by a dolphin and was built on the steel hull of a former Royal Dutch Navy Frigate and relaunched in 2011. Yas’ exterior and interior were styled by Pierrejean Design in Paris, with a strikingly graceful exterior of fluid curves and spectacular structural glass covering. She can comfortably accommodate up to 60 guests while modern diesel power and variable-pitch propellers assure a top speed of 26 knots, cruising speed of 20 knots, transoceanic range, and ‘green’ fuel economy.

Sailing Yacht A

Sailing Yacht A is a sail-assisted motor yacht built for Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko. Her propulsion consists of a variable-speed hybrid power plant with two-line shaft controllable-pitch propellers and is sail-assisted by a three-mast fore-and-aft sailing rig. The vessel itself is massive enough as it is measuring 142 metres in length with masts that are almost 90 metre high. With its unique half-warship, half-superyacht profile it is unsurprisingly the largest sailing ship on the planet and is capable of reaching a top speed of around 18 knots. The interior was created by famous French designer Philippe Starck.

Streets of Monaco

The brainchild of UK-based Yacht Island Design is set to be officially unveiled in 2017. The over-the-top Streets of Monaco looks more like a floating Disney resort than a superyacht, with the entire deck designed as a micro replica of Monaco, complete with go-kart track on a miniature F1 circuit. In the superyacht sector nobody said money buys taste, and with a price-tag of USD 1 billion, the owner gets the Monte Carlo Casino, Hotel de Paris, Cafe de Paris, La Rascasse and Loews Hotel plus numerous swimming pools and tennis courts all onboard one vessel.
