James Bond Island

James Bond Island

Ocean Adventures

James Bond Island Phang Nga Bay or Khao Tapu (meaning Nail Island in Thai) towers 20-metres high above the water line seemly defining gravity much like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

It gained international notoriety through its featured role in the James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun. Today James Bond Island is one of the most popular landmarks in Phang Nga Bay. A distinctive feature of this renowned bay is the number of sheer limestone cliffs that vertically just out of the emerald-green water.

The entire area surrounding this archipelago is indeed magnificent, but during peak season from December to April it can get very crowded with tourist boats of all descriptions.

Fortunately, it is a national park under protection of the Royal Thai Government boats so boats are not supposed to go too close to the island because of its precarious position – very large at the top and relatively slim at the base.

Organised tours to James Bond Island usually combine it with other nearby islands including a seafood lunch at nearby Koh Panyee – a small Muslim fishing village built on stilts.
